Ronan OGara was Ireland's Player of the Season last year. This year he never hit the same lofty heights, but he is still Ireland's best 10 by a long way. Mind OGara with a broken leg would still be Ireland's best 10!
On Saturday he stood up and was counted and took the full force of the Welsh back row running at him. He never lay down or got shifted to the wing in defensive situations where a certain Mr Humphreys used to get hidden. And his kick for Bowe to score and that drop kick under pressure - simply awesome. Indeed it was his opposite number Jones who crumbled at the end - twice!
OGara is an absolute legend! You'll only miss him when he is not around!
great drop goal, but he wasn't great rest of the match. he certainly wasn't too quick to get up when he was tackled - seemed to enjoy having a wee lie down and look around..
A brief rant. Ronan is a class act. The last few seasons he has become the best 10 in Europe. He had a pretty ropey 6 nations (and yes, an awful world cup) but that was striking only because he has been so good for so long. I'm happy to put the dip in form down to a combination of the Experimental Laws and The Weight of History.
Northern irish rugby fans are ridiculously one-eyed when it comes to evaluating the man. Back when they were fighting for the same spot, there was never much to choose between him and Saint David. Since those days, O'Gara has raised his game to a level well above anything Humphreys achieved. He deserves more respect.

I still can't go that far...
Eh? 79 minutes of ineptitude followed by 1 minute of being set up for the drop goal by his team mates!
I have forgiven him, but I still don't trust him.
I have always had immense admiration for anyone who can do things under pressure.
O'Gara has been rubbish 99% of the time, but he got the points when it mattered, and I like that.

I don't really like when people leave anonymous comments on my blog.

End rant.
But he still looks like a bank manager, which was my original complaint.
